About Us

Carson Optical was founded in 1990 by Richard Cameron. A former banker, disheartened with Wall Street, Cameron started in his mother’s Long Island basement importing and exporting a wide array of products between the US and Japan. The company’s first experience with optics came in 1991 when Cameron stumbled upon a unique Electronic Binocular that was manufactured by the now-defunct Copitar Japan. Cameron named his company “Copitar USA” and began cold-calling buyers at national retail chains and writers working for major media publications. Cameron quickly gained placement in mail-order catalogs that included The Sharper Image and Orvis. His public-relations efforts gained the company much-needed exposure in media outlets that included the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Popular Science.

Product Description

The Magnifying Safety Glasses from Carson give the dual benefit of protective eyewear with the included clip-on, flip up magnifying lenses to help aid with any low vision needs. The distortion-free clip-on, flip up magnifying lenses contain a 1.5x power magnification which is equivalent to +2.5 diopters. The safety glasses contain scratch resistant polycarbonate lenses and cushioned rubber temple pads for maximum user comfort. The clear lens design also provide UV A/B/C protection along with protective side shields. The magnifying safety glasses are rated for eye protection against low to moderate impact hazards but are not unbreakable. We do not recommend them for any high impact hazards such as but not limited to shooting, racket sports, paintball or any other similar activities. Pitted or scratched lenses reduce vision and seriously reduce protection and should be replaced immediately. The safety glasses do not provide unlimited protection. They must be worn for the whole duration of exposure to hazards. Leave the work area if any irritation occurs or if the glasses become damaged or cracked. These safety glasses meet the ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 personal eye protection standard for impact resistance. These glasses are not rated to protect from hazards including, but not limited to chemical, heat, welding, dust, light (IR/UV/Laser/etc.) and splash hazards. Additional protective eyewear such as face shields and helmets should be worn to provide additional protection depending on the application and the manufacturer’s specifications. The magnifying safety glasses come included with a protective PVC storage pouch with a magnetic enclosure system.
